So, when Darran told me that we were now going to the awards show and the invitation said evening gown....I started to stress just a bit. I mean, me in an evening gown, is like me being a cheerleader...they just don't fit. (sorry if there are any cheerleaders out there) I didn't know what I was going to do.
I had just started back to work full time last week, when was I going to have time to find a dress? Especially since all the shops near us close at 5pm. Next question: Where in the booming metropolis (hahahaha) of Wonthaggi would I find an evening gown? Last question: Where could I find a modest evening gown? There is a fantastic mall called Chadstone about an hour and a half from here, but by the time I left work and drove there it would be closed. I was in such a pickle!
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday rolled around, with no time to go look for a dress on my lunch break. I had gotten the names of a couple of shops in Wonthaggi from the gals at work, but hadn't had time to get down to see any of them, which were only blocks away from my house. One night I came home and told Darran that he should just find someone else to go with him. Can you tell from that comment how not in my comfort zone I was feeling? His reply was that he wanted his wife to be there, and it isn't everyday that we get to dress up and go to an awards shows. So, with my deadline getting closer and closer, Thursday was my one and only day to find a dress. I left work on my lunch break, had to run home to take care of a couple of things, then back into town with 30 minutes left to find a dress.
I hit the first shop and though it was a nice store, they had nothing, except flannel pajama's which would have been really comfy, but not the fashion statement I was going for. I next ran to store number 2, which I instantly fell in love with! Where had this been for the last two years? And why prey tell hadn't I known about it before now? I knew the answer as soon as I looked at the price tags. But hey, it is my kind of store!!! LOVE IT! And why do I love it? Not just because it carries fantastic clothes that are just me, they also had my dress, and there was no need to visit shop number 3! Now, it isn't at all an Oscar's worthy dress, but it is a classy Jen type dress and I loved it, felt comfy in it, and it is something that I can wear again. It's a simple black dress, so Audry Hepburn. So with eight minutes left I ran to Big W (Walmart type store of Australia) and bought a pair of nylons and a fat sucker upper (you know to make me look that much better) and was back in the office with a dress and everything within my lunch break...how is that for shopping? It was great to have the dress and accomplish all I needed to in 30 minutes! Gotta love that kind of shopping!
